It isn’t every day that someone gets a tattoo inspired by my work, so I thought I’d mark the occasion. Thanks Dominik.

(A very approximate translation follows)

If I swing into the saddle, my new comrade does the same. If I pedal, he follows me. And always stays on my level. My new bike buddy doesn’t want to stay behind or leave me behind. He’s content to keep up my cadence. A look to the side over the left shoulder: he is still there, the faithful companion. He smiles quietly, despite four bags that are packed; even going uphill he doesn’t let his spirits take away. And my new comrade makes no demands. He takes a break when I feel like it, but then he doesn’t finish my bottle or fight for my mid-morning snack. It’s enough for him if I keep him warm when the wind is howling around our ears, or put lotion on his nose when the sun is burning hot from the sky. We understand each other without words, my new bike buddy and I. We’ll tour together for the rest of my life. P.S.: Mo Ducommun from the tattoo studio of the same name in Lucerne provided me with my new cycling companions. Or: stung. She and I were inspired by a cartoon by Dave Walker, whose books come highly recommended.
