I have an exciting thing to write about today. In ten days time I am going to Uganda! (I think this warrants an exclamation mark.)

The splendid cartoon above (not mine) helps to sum up what I’ll be doing, but in summary: I will be travelling with Tearfund, a Christian relief and development charity. Three UK bloggers are going, to write / film / record / draw / anything else we can think of, about the work that Tearfund and local churches are doing there. I’m going to be drawing illustrations I think, rather than cartoons, but I will see what happens when I put pen to paper. I will be blogging some drawings as we go, and others will be done for various publications after the event.

So, yes, there are three of us going. The other two bloggers are Liz Clutterbuck (@LizClutterbuck on Twitter) and Bex Lewis (@drbexl on Twitter). You can follow everything to do with the trip via a special page on the Tearfund site, www.tearfund.org/bloggers, and via the Twitter hashtag #tfbloggers.

It is a great privilege to be given this opportunity, and I hope I can do it justice. I’m not going to tell you everything about the trip in this post, as I will be writing more about it over the next few weeks. But the place we are going is Ogongora in Uganda – you can read / watch more about it on the ‘See for yourself’ section of the Tearfund website.

Although we are going to report on what we experience, I think this trip will be as much about learning as anything else. Having watched some of the videos on the Tearfund site I certainly think that that will be the case for me.

Oh, and I will need advice. On things like hats. And on all sorts of other topics that I have yet to think of.

  2. Very excited for you!
Definitely need a hat & sun cream and if it was like our trip to South Africa a rain coat.
    Looking forward to hearing/seeing more.

  3. Fantastic news, Dave. I hope you (all) have a great experience.
I lived and worked in Uganda between 1986-2001, near the town of Arua in West Nile District – rather a long way from where you’ll be.
Looking forward to hearing/reading about your time there and all the people you meet.

  4. GREAT! Hope you have a fab time. We lived in Kampala 2001-2005 – i assume you’ll have all the contacts you need, but just shout if you need others

  5. Brilliant idea, and looking forward to reading (and seeing) the dynamic trio’s findings. Could a shortened form of Christian bloggers possibly be Cloggers?

  6. I will really look forward to hearing about what you see and hear over there. And will suggest to my friends that they might like to as well!

  7. Fantastic! You kept that under your hat!
Love the way you are described as a ‘top Christian blogger’, which you are of course, but now hopefully loads of new people will also know this.
Have a fabulous time – looking forward to seeing all the stuff that comes out of it.

  8. Thanks for comments everyone. Very much looking forward to it. Rather nervous about a radio interview I have to do this lunchtime though…
