I have not heard the fine Anglo-Saxon word hassock for so long – people here in California tend to say kneeler. To be frank, not many do as much kneeling at church as we used to.
It’s terribly upsetting when I confuse my hassock with my cassock. Those kneelers are very uncomfortable. Itchy.

Do any Sussex commuters know if Hassocks railway station features a few symbolic kneelers? That would be a satisfying thing.
Beware – some people using the Hassock Lending Library may be stealing the images on the front of them for all sorts of nefarious purposes, such as to make a tapestry chart for a cushion.
All the hassocks in my church have been pilfered I think, we don’t have any at all.
