Lord Carey banned from Cathedral

Lord Carey has been banned from Bangor Cathedral (one imagines this includes the bookshop and refectory) because of his views which the Dean does not like. So reports Ruth Gledhill in the Times today. No doubt she will comment on her blog a bit later on (Update: see here).

Lord Carey’s son Andrew has been quick to comment on his blog:

This report below needs very little comment or interpretation. The intolerant decision of the Dean, the Bishop of Bangor’s effete response, the capitulation of CMS* and the pomposity of a Lambeth Palace spokesman are there for all to see.

The Dean’s decision is fair game for criticism and the Lambeth Palace spokesman didn’t come across particularly well. But I don’t see how criticism of CMS (The Church Missionary Society) is justified. What are they supposed to do – escort Lord Carey to Bangor and engage the Dean and his men in hand to hand combat?*
