The BBC reports that search engine Ask Jeeves is about to drop the ‘Jeeves’ character that features on their website. Some people are up in arms and have started a ‘save Jeeves’ campaign with associated blog.
I am in two minds. I don’t really like the Ask Jeeves search engine so much as it’s not so easy to find myself on it, and I am really very vain.
But on the other hand I like the PG Wodehouse connection. We live in a very un-PG Wodehouse-esque world (Can I say that? I suspect not.) and I think a little more PG Wodehouseness (ditto) would be a good thing for us all.
I found this piece of last weeks news on the Drawn weblog.
I’m a great PG Wodehouse fan and it seemed a little sad to me that Ask Jeeves were dropping the PGW connection, tenuous as it was.
Have you heard the Jeeves serial they’re running on the BBC7 website? Richard Briers is utterly perfect as Bertie and Michael Hordern makes a good Jeeves.
