The self-service checkout

Brand new cartoon: The self-service checkout

Self-service checkouts make us unhappy. The shops install them with that aim. In an ideal world I would avoid all shops with self-service checkouts, but the reality is that I must use them and stand there waiting for the shop assistant to finish helping one of the many other people for whom the machines are not working.

Come on shops – it is time to admit they don’t work and go back employing actual staff.

  1. I never use them. I have my standard reply whenever a staff member tried to get me to use the self service checkout: “If I wanted to scan shopping I would apply for a job in your supermarket and get paid for doing it.” 🙂 Said with a smile and in good humour never fails to get a laugh. Occasionally I might also add that by refusing to use the self service checkout I am in effect keeping the staff member in their job.
