It has been quite a week for the Anglican church. I am sorry that I have not drawn about it but I have not had a very good few days with one thing and another, so it has not happened. If you want a summary read something like this BBC report.

I have learnt today, among other things, that the middle ground is not the place to be. Let this be a warning to the following, who look to me to be dangerously close to seeing both sides of the argument:

Elizaphanian: Trying to think straight

Raspberry Rabbit: Time to quit the Jiggery-Pokery

Disaster Area: Let The Whining Begin – Oh, Wait, It Has…

Last but not least…

Presiding Bishop Katharine Jefferts Schori: A Season of Fasting – Reflections on the Primates Meeting

Update: Rowan Williams: Why the Anglican Communion matters
Our Archbishop is a very wise man.

  1. Hey, Dave 🙂

Yeah, this middle ground is fun. How do I know?

I’ve got bullets in me from both sides…

But then that’s what you might expect from someone of my calibre.

  2. Re your update and ‘our Archbishop is a very wise man’:

    Yes, I agree, he is.

And it is truly soul-destroying to read some of the views beneath the link (and elsewhere in the media)

But. What’s to do? I don’t see opinions changing on the issues that are threatening a split. Those who believe that their views are based on the word of the bible are not going to allow any mere mortal to change those views (unless, for example, perhaps, a child or loved one of theirs turns out to be gay…..), and it is frustrating that a reluctance to shout from the rooftops that these anti-gay beliefs are flawed and will not be tolerated can be seen as condoning those vile views, and those nations that still punish homosexuality with the death penalty.

  3. Perhaps middle ground is like standing in the middle of the road – you’re likely to get run over!
